'Titletown' truly near hearts of police
The Green Bay Packers already had Sam Shields. Now, they have a shield, too.
That's shield, as is police badge.
The Green Bay Police Department has commissioned special badges to commemorate the Packers' 2010 Super Bowl title. The badges feature the green-and-white Packers logo prominently in the center and the words "Titletown USA" and "Super Bowl Champions XLV."
The Packers have won four Super Bowls, including the first two. They won nine NFL titles before the first Super Bowl was played after the 1966 season.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported that officers may purchase the new badges and wear them through next August. Officers may opt for the traditional department badges, too, the paper reported.
Shields, a cornerback, had two interceptions as a rookie last season and two more in the NFC Championship Game victory over the Chicago Bears. He made news this summer for getting a large tattoo on his neck of the Packers' championship ring. Perhaps the police badge can inspire a matching tattoo on the other side of Shields' neck.
