Jaguars center Brad Meester was nominated for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year and won the team's Ed Block Courage Award. Meester missed all of the preseason and the first four games of 2007 after breaking a bone in his ankle during training camp. But he returned to play in the final 11 regular-season and two playoff games, which earned him the vote of his teammates for the Courage Award. "I'm sure there were other great candidates for this, and to be nominated by my fellow players always means a lot that they think of me that way," Meester said. The Man of the Year Award has been given since 1970 in recognition of a player's off-the-field community service and playing excellence. Meester spearheaded an effort to raise nearly $100,000 for tornado relief in his home area of Parkersburg, Iowa, through donations and the sale of Aplington-Parkersburg High School hats. Several citizens were killed and much of the area was destroyed when a tornado struck Parkersburg on May 25. Funds from donations and hat-sales proceeds are being used in the rebuilding effort. "[The tornado] definitely touched me," Meester said. "There were several people that lost their lives out there. You just never know what is going to happen. You just have to enjoy every moment that God has blessed you with, whether it is out here on this field or at home with your family." ETC. WR Matt Jones (thigh contusion) returned to practice Wednesday, and DT John Henderson (knee) participated in a limited capacity. Henderson hasn't played in the past two games, but the Jaguars hope to have him back Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings . FB Greg Jones (ankle), RB Fred Taylor (groin) and CBs Rashean Mathis (foot) and Omare Lowe (knee) also didn't practice. ... The Jaguars signed rookie WR Nate Hughes to the practice squad and released TE Charles Davis.
