Cromartie will 'smash' Hasselbeck's face

Published Jan. 27, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Outspoken New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie got into a war of words Thursday with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Early Thursday, Hasselbeck tweeted, "Somebody ask Cromartie if he knows what CBA stands for." Hasselbeck, however, quickly deleted the tweet, but not before NBC's ProFootballTalk spotted it.

The tweet was in response to Cromartie's comments earlier this week that the head of the NFL Players Association was acting like an "a**hole."

Upon learning of Hasselbeck's tweet, Cromartie hit back on Twitter:

"hey Matt if u have something to then say it be a man about it. Don’t erase it. I will smash ur face in.”

The veteran Seattle quarterback was not the only one to criticize Cromartie for his apparent lack of unity in the face of a possible lockout.

Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, Cardinals defensive lineman Darnell Dockett, and many others were quick to defend NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith after Cromartie's comments.

The NFL collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in March, and progress between the two sides has been minimal so far.
