Report: Julio Jones to have foot surgery

Published Feb. 28, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Former Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones will have surgery for a broken foot, NFL.com reported Monday. The surgery, which will require an eight-week rehab period, could prevent Jones from working out for teams prior to the NFL draft in late April.

Jones, who has terrific size and hands, posted a surprising 4.39 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine over the weekend.

Because of that 40-yard dash time, he shouldn't drop in the draft much, if at all, despite the impending foot surgery.

Jones, who is the second-rated wide receiver available for the draft, is expected to be selected in the top 10 picks.
