QUESTION — Will from Springfield, Mo.: "Glaze, do you think Kurt Warner will make the HOF?" jay_glazer: "His numbers and accolades absolutely warrant it. However, I still think he needs a solid finish to his career to convince the voters. Last year's Super Bowl run definitely helped his chances, but if his career lingered on and became merely a backup after awhile, it could actually hurt him. If he went out on top, that would solidify his for a bust." QUESTION — Matt from Va. Beach: "Jay, I was thinking 7-9 or 8-8 for this year's Browns. Am I aiming too high?" jay_glazer: "I haven't been there yet to get a firsthand look. But this team is still in rebuilding mode, and what I'm hearing is that head coach Eric Mangini is beating the heck out of these guys on a daily basis." QUESTION — Nick DeMore from McAllen, Texas: "Will Brady Quinn be the Browns' quarterback this year?" jay_glazer: "From what I'm hearing right now, they're giving both QBs equal reps. However, I am hearing that Quinn is ahead. Now that's not to say he's definitely going to win it, that's only what I'm hearing right now." QUESTION — Jo-Ann Amantea from Bronx, NY: "Hi Jay, let me preface this by saying I'm a die-hard Giants fan and have no vested interest in the Vikings whatsoever (God knows). But I've got to say that this Favre soap opera is ridiculous. Enough already! I'm surprised that the media haven't covered his bathroom breaks yet! Jeez! Personally, I think this is the year his consecutive starts streak ends. Sadly, I have a feeling that someone is going to ring his bell and put him out for a game or two. Is he really that one intangible that the Vikings need to take them to the Super Bowl?" jay_glazer: "You're about as frustrated as everyone else I've heard from. However, the Vikings fans I've talked to are excited, and they should be. Brett still has enough zip on the ball and he's a wily veteran. And let's face it, in this offense everyone is geared to stop the run. It's a quarterback's dream. All he needs to do is not screw it up and he will shine. "But what's been bothering me is that he came in with excuses built-in already, almost to protect himself in case he falters. If you're going to be in it, be in it 100-percent, highs and lows ... and just let 'er rip." QUESTION — Joe Albert from Lime Springs, Iowa: "The Vikings were obviously in need of a quarterback, so in your opinion why did they not go after Jay Cutler?" jay_glazer: "Head coach Brad Childress was the one driving the bus on Favre interest from start to finish. But there actually was a big push within the organization to go after Cutler, to this day I'm not sure why they didn't. Ultimately they didn't want to give up a ton of draft picks, but Favre is just a band-aid for a team wanting to win now. Can you imagine Cutler, Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin on the same field for the next five years? I couldn't agree with you more." QUESTION — Mark from Gig Harbor, Wash.: "Just wanted to say, loved you on Adam Carolla's podcast. Was great to hear without FCC looking over your shoulder! Hope you return to visit with Adam again soon! Go SEAHAWKS!" jay_glazer: "I loved doing it, plus you had to see where the podcast was done from. Carolla had these cool cars housed in his warehouse with all his other toys ¿ it was badass! The day I was in, Chris Kattan was there, too. I brought my son, who's almost seven years old, and he was amazed at all the stuff Adam had. It was like FAO Schwartz on Red Bull." QUESTION — Brad from San Carlos, Calif.: "As a Niner season ticket holder, Crabtree's holdout is making me sick. Has he ever heard of 'slot pay?' " jay_glazer: "Yeah, he has ... unfortunately it's somebody else's slot, haha." QUESTION — Andreas Towli from Lakewood, N.J.: "Are you the same Jay Glazer that played Manalapan baseball and football with my son Alex? If you are, congratulations in the sports reporting business!" jay_glazer: "That'd be me, thanks. Hope Alex is doing well!" QUESTION — Doug from Baltimore, Md.: "Hey Glaze, with teams like the Ravens and Chiefs clamoring for WR help, why isn't Matt Jones on the forefront of these tryouts? Is it as simple as teams just wanting to sidestep the negative publicity he could potentially bring?" jay_glazer: "Because you can't trust him. Talent vs. trust is a separate issue. That's not saying he shouldn't get another chance, he should. But he's going to have to find a team that's willing to gamble and hope he doesn't let them down." QUESTION — Roger Malcom from Crane, Mo.: "How do you think the Cowboys rank as a Super Bowl contender this year?" jay_glazer: "I think Dallas will be solid. They're counting on Tony Romo to lead this team. I get asked about Romo constantly and I think if he was on any team but Dallas everyone would be hailing him as a great quarterback on a Carson Palmer-type level. But in Dallas if you don't win every year, they treat you like the teacher who gave you an 'F' every day." QUESTION — Bobby Autin from Houma, La.: "Do you believe the Saints' defense will be good enough this year to get them back in the playoffs? Where do you feel they need to rank among NFL defenses to be there?" jay_glazer: "think I mentioned in a previous mailbag item, that Drew Brees told me that Saints practices have been more competitive than in any year he's been in New Orleans. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams is bringing a completely different attitude to that side of the ball. He has a history of instilling the defense with a very aggressive, blitz-oriented, take-no-prisoners mentality. So far, they seem to be responding to his gospel." QUESTION — Daniel from Troy, N.Y.: "With the Rams stockpiling high draft picks and the addition of coach Spags, don't you think the Rams can be a vastly improved team this year?" jay_glazer: "Yes, they needed a guy to come in and clean up the soap opera atmosphere in St. Louis, and Spags was the perfect person to come in and do it. His players praise him as a guy who is constantly thinking of specific ways to help each individual. Like Michael Strahan told me before about his former defensive coordinator, 'You can tell he has no kids, because he spends way too much damn time on us.' "
