Report: Dolphins cut employees' salaries
Miami Dolphins has slashed salaries of all team employees by 10 to 20 percent until the NFL lockout is resolved, the Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
The team informed its workers of the pay cuts on Tuesday, saying salaries will be restored to their old levels when the lockout ends.
Employees making $75,000 or more will see a 20 percent reduction, employees making $50,000-75,000 will see a 15 percent cut and those making under $50,000 will see a 10 percent cut.
"We're a private company," Dolphins representative Harvey Greene told the paper when asked about the cuts. "We don't comment publicly about our internal practices."
According to the report, the team believes the cuts are necessary because the lockout is hurting season ticket sales.
The Dolphins are not the first team to take such an action. The Charlotte Observer reported in March that up to seven other teams had instituted pay cuts or unpaid furloughs amid the lockout.
The NFL labor battle has moved to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis.
On April 29, the court granted the NFL an emergency stay on a federal court ruling that briefly lifted the lockout. The court has not ruled on the NFL's request for a temporary stay to be implemented for the entirety of the appeals process.
The lockout has been in place for all but a few days since March 11. The first hearing before the appeals court is scheduled for June 3.
