Compensatory picks awarded at meeting

The Oakland Raiders were the biggest winners among NFL teams receiving compensatory draft choices, picking up an extra third-round pick (selections 33-95), a fourth-round pick and a fifth-round selection.

In all, 32 compensatory choices were awarded to 15 teams on Monday. The Browns, Packers and Jets also came out well with extra picks: each team was awarded a total of four compensatory selections, with Green Bay landing an extra set of fourth-round choices. The Vikings also received two extra fourth-round picks.

Compensatory picks are awarded based on a complex NFL management council formula that accounts for the net loss of free agents based how many a team signed and surrendered, while accounting for salary, playing time and postseason honors.

Thirty compensatory picks were awarded based on the compensatory pick formula and, by rule, two additional choices were awarded at the end of the seventh round. That means the Rams and Colts will each receive two picks in the seventh round, based on the 2012 selection order.
