Jacobs could have future in wrestling
If the New York Giants don’t want to keep Brandon Jacobs, the burly running back may have another line of work awaiting him: Professional wrestler.
TNA Wrestling president Dixie Carter posted on her Twitter account Thursday that she already has begun talks with Jacobs about a post-football career in her company. Jacobs recently appeared at a TNA television taping in Orlando, Fla. and will be featured slamming the villainous Bully Ray through a table on Thursday night’s episode of Impact Wrestling (9 p.m. ET, Spike TV).
"If you watch Brandon on Impact Wrestling, you'll see he has instincts you can't teach and a real talent for this business,” Carter told FOXSports.com in an email. “We have already been talking about life after his football career and are both very excited about the potential.”
TNA hired the 6-foot-4, 264-pound Jacobs as a guest participant after a post-Super Bowl deal with Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul fell through.
Jacobs’ future with the Giants is in doubt because of the $4.9 million salary he is slated to earn in 2012. A backup to Ahmad Bradshaw, Jacobs finished with his lowest rushing total (571 yards) since the 2006 season. Jacobs, though, did rush for 92 yards in a first-round playoff victory over Atlanta and scored a touchdown the following week against Green Bay.
The 29-year-old Jacobs could agree to a restructured Giants contract or opt to find a new team in free agency if the Giants ask him to take a pay cut.
