Injured Giants kicker furious with refs

Walking on crutches and potentially sidelined for a long while, the New York Giants' veteran kicker Lawrence Tynes directed his anger at the NFL, the New York Post reported Sunday.

No flag was called on the play, despite the league's new emphasis on defenseless players, and that set Tynes off afterward.

"Where was the flag?" he said. "What happened to the defenseless player [emphasis]? I don't care if you tip the ball, you still shouldn't be able to hit a kicker when he still has his plant foot on the ground. I don't understand where the hell the rule is, because I was the epitome of a defenseless player. I guess we'll find out soon enough. I'm sure I'm talking out of school, but whatever."

Tynes said that his knee was unhurt, but he struggled to walk in the locker room, and the Giants scheduled an MRI exam Sunday. It seemed likely that Big Blue would have to bring in at least a temporary replacement.
