Jets' Smith exits with apparent injury

Published Aug. 9, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has left Friday night's exhibition game against the Detroit Lions with an apparent right leg injury.

Smith, a second-round draft pick out of West Virginia, is Mark Sanchez's main competition at quarterback. He was 6 of 7 for 47 yards but did not lead any scoring drives before leaving the game early in the third quarter.

There was no immediate announcement about Smith's injury, but he was eventually able to walk to the tunnel under his own power.
