Jets' Ryan calls out Manning, Colts

Rex Ryan, who never hides his emotions, said in no uncertain terms Monday that the Jets' wild-card playoff game against the Colts on Saturday in Indianapolis is personal between him and Peyton Manning.

Ryan, whose reputation has been built on the strength of his defensive mind and the schemes he devises, has been owned by Manning.

He knows it, Manning knows it, everyone knows it.

The previous meeting between Ryan and Manning was the end to the Jets’ 2009 season when the Colts came back to beat the Jets 30-17 in the AFC Championship Game last January at Lucas Oil Stadium.

"I don't know when I'm going to beat him, but I want it to be Saturday night," Ryan said Monday. "Is it personal? Yes, it's personal. It's personal against him, Reggie Wayne, all those guys, yeah. (Dwight) Freeney and (Robert) Mathis and those other dudes? Absolutely.

“Peyton Manning has beaten me twice in the playoffs,’’ Ryan went on. “That’s well-documented. You’ve got all the stats. But this is about this year, and I’ve waited a whole year for this.’’

Ryan and the Jets were stung by the loss to the Colts last January. They held a halftime lead and seemed to be controlling the game until Manning got hot and torched their defense in a second-half blitzkrieg.

"You lose a playoff game, it's devastating," Ryan said. "I want to put the shoe on the other foot. I know this team does, too. We want (Manning) to experience it this time. I respect heck out of this guy, but I'm going to beat him one day. I just hope it's this Saturday."
