Warner speaks to Chiefs at practice

“He spoke to the team about greatness and the importance of it,” Cassel told FOXSports.com after Thursday’s session. “Too many times, there are players in this league who don’t want to be good enough. He hit the nail right on the head when he talked about to be great, you have to be something special and work toward it. The message was crystal clear. It was great to hear from him.”
Haley was Arizona’s offensive coordinator when Warner led the 2008 Cardinals to Super Bowl XLIII. Haley left after that season to become Kansas City’s head coach while Warner played one more season in Arizona before retiring in January.
Cassel, who also made his Chiefs debut in 2009, said Warner shared his familiarity with Haley’s modus operandi during their conversation.
“We talked a little Xs and Os about Todd and what they did in Arizona,” Cassel said. “I got a feel for the different things that go through his mind, whether it’s game planning or thought processes. It was fun.”
During his Thursday news conference, Haley said Warner stopped in Kansas City while taking a cross-country trip with his family.
“He’s an inspiration,” said Haley, who is as impressed with Warner’s off-field charity efforts as a 12-year NFL career that should land him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“He’s special. For him to come out and talk to these guys, I saw a lot of wide eyes watching and paying attention for a lot of different reasons.”
Warner finished with 32,344 passing yards, 208 touchdowns and one Super Bowl title with the 1999 St. Louis Rams. Acquired in a 2009 offseason trade with New England, Cassel completed 55 percent of his passes for 2,924 yards with 16 touchdowns and 16 interceptions for last season’s 4-12 Chiefs squad. However, Cassel is expected to improve on those statistics in 2010 with Kansas City bolstering its offensive talent during the offseason.
