Report: RG3 'way ahead' of schedule

Less than seven weeks after Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III laid on the grass, with a torn right ACL and LCL at FedEx Field in a Wild Card round loss to the Seattle Seahawks, there is hope that the young star is ahead of pace to return.

“Way ahead of schedule,” Dr. James Andrews told NFL Network at the Scouting Combine on Friday. “He's an unbelievable athlete (and) we don't have to do much but try to hold him back.”

Andrews, who performed Griffin’s operation in early January, noted in the interview that Griffin’s status remains uncertain for Week 1 of 2013 and that recovery time for such an injury is very extensive.

"Our whole mode for him is to do what's best for his career, not necessarily what's best for the first game next season," Andrews said.

Although the Redskins’ coaching staff drew some blame after Griffin sustained the injury, the rookie quarterback never saw it that way.

“I had a tough injury there at the end of the season. I thank our coaches, thank our players,” Griffin said in early February while accepting the AP offensive rookie of the year award.
