NEW ORLEANS - The most remarkable statistic within Drew Brees' shredding of the Patriots defense last night? Going into the fourth quarter, Brees had attempted only 16 passes, less than half the number of passes attempted by Tom Brady. Of course, when you've completed 14 of those 16 passes for 307 yards (21.9 yards per catch) and four touchdowns, you're getting quality instead of quantity. Brees went on to hit 4-of-5 passes on his team's first series of the fourth quarter, the last to Marques Colston for 20 yards and his fifth TD. Brees' TD passes went to five different receivers as the Saints gave the Patriots secondary a drilling it won't soon forget and New Orleans remained undefeated with a 38-17 victory in the Louisiana Superdome. ``Drew was outstanding. Drew was special,'' Saints coach Sean Peyton said. ``He had great location. He was seeing the field with great confidence. ``That was a magnificent job by him. Let's just say he's playing very well.'' Brees directed touchdown drives of seven, one, five and three plays on four consecutive possessions, not including a kneel down at halftime, during the second and third quarters. After the Patriots finally forced a punt early in the fourth quarter, but went three-and-out, the Saints were more interested in running the clock than padding their lead. New Orleans used 5:18 with nine plays, ending with a scoring pass to Colston, who dragged Pats safety Brandon McGowan across the goal line. ``That's kind of what I do,'' said Colston, whose 121 yards led the team. ``I didn't realize I was the fifth different guy who got a score tonight. ``But that really doesn't surprise me. That's what Drew does.'' Brees connected with seven different receivers, and that was with starting wide receiver Lance Moore and running back Reggie Bush not available. No matter. When Darnell Dinkins hauled in a 2-yard TD pass in the third quarter, he became the 20th Saint to score this season. Brees finished 18-of-23 for 371 yards and a perfect passer rating of 158.3. ``This was a special night,'' Brees said. ``The receivers did a great job getting open and then making some big-time runs after the catch.''
