Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Geno Hayes was shot with a stun gun before being arrested early Monday morning after a disturbance at a nightclub, The Tampa Tribune reported.

The 23-year-old was shocked with the gun for refusing police orders after he was ejected from the Blue Martini club at International Plaza, in Tampa.

A police report described Hayes as "loud [and] verbally abusive" while threatening staff and officers after becoming angry when an acquaintance was refused entry to the club.

Hayes was himself then turned away, before attempting to return to the club to retrieve a credit card he said he left behind. Staff allowed his friend entry to find the card, but requested Hayes remain at a nearby store.

According to the report, Hayes reacted angrily before an officer ordered him "to walk away from the front door," but the linebacker "assumed an aggressive stance and refused to leave."

Police said he was warned he would be shocked unless he cooperated, but persisted and was fired at with the stun gun.

His clothing proved too thick for the shock to ground him, forcing an officer to tackle the 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker before taking him into custody.

Hayes was charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct at 2:00am local time and posted a $750 bail three hours later.

Hayes was previously shot with a stun gun during an arrest in Tallahassee in 2007 while he attended Florida State University.
