Titans' Locker hurts shoulder again
For the second time in this young NFL season, the Tennessee Titans are dealing with The Hurt Locker.
Titans quarterback Jake Locker injured his left, non-throwing shoulder after being sacked in the first quarter of 38-14 road loss to the Houston Texans. He returned to the sideline in the second quarter in street clothes with his left arm in a sling.
Locker hurt the same shoulder in Tennessee's season-opening loss to New England.
Tennessee coach Mike Munchak said Locker was ''sore'' and will undergo an MRI exam Monday. How long he will be out remains to be seen.
''I don't know any of that at this time,'' Locker said. ''We'll know a lot more tomorrow.''
Santonio Holmes and the New York Jets will be playing the waiting game, too.
New York's top receiver had to be helped from the field after he hurt his left foot on the first play of the fourth quarter in a 34-0 home loss to San Francisco.
The injury was originally announced as a knee problem, but the Jets said after the game that Holmes was having a foot treated.
Holmes went down after catching a short pass, which he fumbled, with Carlos Rogers returning it 51 yards for a touchdown. Trainers helped him off, and Holmes wasn't putting any weight on the leg. He was then carted to the locker room.
The Jets also lost tight end Dedrick Epps to a right knee injury, and fullback John Conner to a hamstring problem in the blowout defeat.
Locker was sacked by Glover Quin and thrown to the ground. He remained there for a few minutes in pain while trainers attended to him. He eventually got up and walked off the field before being taken to the locker room.
Quin was uncovered at the line, something Locker didn't notice until it was too late.
''I didn't see him,'' Locker said. ''I'd have done something about it if I had seen him.''
In other injury news, the Buffalo Bills will have to shuffle their offensive line after losing two starters in a 52-28 loss to the New England Patriots.
Coach Chan Gailey said left tackle Cordy Glenn and right guard Kraig Urbik will be out for ''a while'' after both hurt their right ankle.
EYE CANDY
We're not just watching the field on Sunday. NFL cheerleaders provide the perfect sideshow.Glenn was hurt late in the third quarter, when he was bowled over while attempting to protect quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was sacked by Rob Ninkovich.
Glenn, the Bills' rookie second-round draft pick, lay on the field for several minutes and had difficulty putting weight on his foot while being escorted to the sideline.
Urbik was hurt in the second quarter when he went down while protecting Fitzpatrick, who overthrew receiver T.J. Graham. Urbik limped to the sideline and tested his right foot before being escorted to the locker room.
Safety Jairus Byrd, who forced two fumbles, didn't return after hurting his hip in the second half. Receiver Donald Jones, who scored on a 68-yard touchdown catch, and tight end Scott Chandler, who scored twice, didn't return after taking blows to the head in the second half.
- Also in that game, Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower didn't return after hurting his hamstring in the first half.
- Houston Texans guard Antoine Caldwell left in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle.
- Packers safety M.D. Jennings, who played a key role in the controversial play at Seattle, left the game with a shoulder injury.
- Packers WR Greg Jennings caught a touchdown in the second quarter but later came out of the game. Jennings has been struggling to stay healthy with a groin injury.
- The Redskins played without safety Brandon Meriweather and receiver Aldrick Robinson, who were declared out after colliding in the end zone during pregame warmups.
