"Absolutely not," Owens said Tuesday afternoon when asked on Philadelphia's 97.5 The Fanatic about whether he would play if he were in Jackson's shoes.

"I would have to better myself and my family and my situation. That's ridiculous."

Jackson is slated to make $600,000 this season in the final year of his rookie contract. The 24-year-old is coming off back-to-back seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards.

Owens, who is a free agent as he rehabs a torn ACL, said he believes Jackson has been advised to "be a man about it and play under the existing contract" rather than hold out for a new deal.

But the 37-year-old, five-time All-Pro selection said Jackson is taking a major risk by waiting until the offseason for his big payday.

"I guarantee you — if he goes out and gets hurt, God forbid, he's not going to get the contract that he probably would have gotten if he held out."

Both Jackson and Owens are represented by high-profile agent Drew Rosenhaus.

The Eagles open the season Sunday at St. Louis.
