Tebow to give sermon in San Diego
New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow will take a break from learning the team's playbook Sunday to address fellow Christians during a Father's Day event at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium.
The deeply religious signal caller will make his first return to the Chargers' home field since November, when he helped lead the Broncos to a 16-13 overtime victory.
The free event, hosted by the Shadow Mountain Community Church, is expected to garner tens of thousands of spectators.
"Originally, this was planned for our campus, and we went from too many people and not enough seats, to plenty of seats and room for all the people who want to come," Shadow Mountain spokesman David St. John told the North County Times.
Tebow, who was traded from Denver in the offseason, has become as popular off the field for his outspoken religious beliefs as he is for his unorthodox methods of leading teams to victory.
"If there's anybody in our country today who illustrates what it means to live with passion and break the mold, and to rise above what everybody says are your limitations, it's Tim Tebow," St. John said.
The 24-year-old discussed his faith with approximately 15,000 fellow Christians in April at an outdoor Easter Sunday service in Texas.
He will share the pulpit in Qualcomm with Shadow Mountain Pastor David Jeremiah, with both expected to discuss "encouraging men to live, love and lead," St. John said.
