Byline: Ryan O'Halloran, THE WASHINGTON TIMES Final observations from the Redskins' 16-13 victory over Tampa Bay: * Santana Moss' 59-yard touchdown catch was a perfectly executed play. Jason Campbell's play-action fake took safety Sabby Piscitelli out of position - he was likely to defend the deep pass. Moss used an out-and-up double move and had the advantage after cornerback Aqib Talib turned his hips outside when he thought Moss was running a deep out or a comeback route. Moss caught the pass in stride at the 15-yardline. * Defensive coordinator Greg Blache vowed to be a maverick and riverboat gambler, and he did unveil a couple of new wrinkles. In the first half, cornerback Justin Tryon - one of six defensive backs on thefield - was covering the left slot. At the snap, he blitzed unblocked and sacked Josh Johnson. The other new element was a three-man defensive line. The Redskins used it on four third-down snaps, and the Bucs didn't convert any of them. * With Campbell struggling in the first half, coach Jim Zorn said he tried to call plays that Campbell felt comfortable with so he could gain a rhythm. Another possible way was using max protection. Earlyin the second quarter, Campbell completed a 15-yard pass to Moss. Tampa Bay rushed four, and the Redskins used eight pass protectors. Three plays later, eight Redskins players blocked five Bucs rushers on an incompletion. * If Brian Orakpo hadn't experienced a Welcome to the NFL moment in his first three games, it certainly came Sunday. On second-and-8 from the Washington 28 in the second quarter, Orakpo was in a four-point stance at right defensive end. Tight end John Gilmore went in motion with one objective - decleat Orakpo. At the snap, he delivered the crack-back block to level him. But the play backfired - Earnest Graham was stopped for a 2-yard loss, and Gilmore's illegal motion penaltywas declined. * Figuring what role - if any - tight end Fred Davis is playing continues to be difficult. He (unofficially) played 13 and 22 snaps in the first two games, but in the past two weeks has played only 14 of 120 snaps (11.7 percent). Three of his nine plays against Tampa Bay were end-of-game kneel-downs. Two of his three catches resulted in lost yardage, and things haven't gotten better on special teams.
