Hankerson done for 2011 with hip injury

A rookie gets 100 yards receiving in his first NFL start - and is lost for the season with an injury.

The Washington Redskins offense took another hit Monday when coach Mike Shanahan revealed that third-round pick Leonard Hankerson will go on injured reserve with a subluxation and a labrum tear in the right hip.

Hankerson had a breakout performance for a struggling offense on Sunday, catching eight passes for 106 yards in a 20-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

But he hurt his hip in the fourth quarter and will now join tight end Chris Cooley, running back Tim Hightower and left guard Kory Lichtensteiger as offensive starters on IR. Receiver Santana Moss and left tackle Trent Williams have also missed multiple games with injuries.

Hankerson had an inconsistent training camp and couldn't get off the bench early in the season, but he caught his first pass three weeks ago against Buffalo and finishes the season with 13 catches for 163 yards.

Hankerson will meet with specialists next week to determine if he needs surgery. He faces a rehabilitation period of at least four months.

Also on Sunday, backup defensive lineman Kedric Golston tore two knee ligaments. Shanahan said the team believes Golston has a third-degree MCL tear and a partial ACL tear and will miss one game at least.

Shanahan said Moss, who has missed three games with a broken left hand, will sit out at least one more week but could possibly return for the Nov. 27 game against Seattle.

The coach said right tackle Jammal Brown, who missed Sunday's loss with a groin injury, is a ''long shot'' to play in the upcoming game against Dallas.
