Source: Falcons contacted McClure
The Falcons approached McClure about the possibility of returning during the team’s bye week in mid-October. McClure, 36, was willing, but the Falcons ultimately decided against making the move.
McClure retired after the 2012 season, which was his 14th with the franchise. McClure later posted on his Twitter account that he wanted to play in 2013, but the Falcons weren’t interested in having him back.
Peter Konz, a 2012 second-round pick from Wisconsin, has assumed the center spot McClure manned for 194 career starts.
Atlanta has allowed 14 sacks, which is the NFL’s fifth-lowest total. But with running back Steven Jackson missing extensive playing time because of a hamstring injury, the Falcons have the league’s worst rushing attack with a 64.4-yard average.
The Falcons (2-6) host Seattle (8-1) on Sunday.
