Ravens' Osemele likely out for year

Published Nov. 1, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Injured Baltimore Ravens left guard Kelechi Osemele is likely to miss the remainder of the season.

Osemele has dealt with a back injury since his rookie season last year, but he said last week that his back has become more of a problem this season.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced after practice Friday that Osemele is likely to undergo surgery.

''The back was just getting a little worse and a little worse,'' Harbaugh said. ''And we went back in and looked at it, and there's some things that need to be taken care of.''

Osemele, Baltimore's second round pick last year, practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, but he missed practice Thursday and Friday.

With Osemele out, A.Q. Shipley will take over as the Ravens' starting left guard.
