Bucs WR Williams tells police brother accidentally stabbed him
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams told Hillsborough (Fla.) County police he was accidentally stabbed by his brother on Sunday during what began as a playful wrestling match, a Hillsborough Police spokeswoman confirmed to FOX Sports.
A source who spoke with Williams following the incident said Williams claimed he didn't want to press charges against his brother, 23-year-old Eric Baylor. Baylor is not in custody.
However, Hillsborough Police spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez said a warrant was issued after witnesses on the scene gave differing accounts. Bermudez did not provide details of the witnesses' accounts but made it clear some on the scene conveyed to police it was not merely horseplay between the brothers.
Per a police press release, Williams was stabbed with a kitchen knife. He was treated and released on Sunday. Williams and his agent, Hadley Engelhardt, have not returned messages seeking comment.
Williams is facing misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief for an unspecified incident that occurred last November. Williams, who played in only six games last year, was on injured reserve at the time.
Williams was considered a first-round talent but slipped to the fourth round after a few academic and behavioral issues during his college career at Syracuse. Williams quit the team in 2009 and then entered the NFL Draft.
The Bucs signed Williams to a four-year, $40-million contract extension last summer, though only $9.4 million of the deal is fully guaranteed. Another $5.2 million becomes guaranteed at the start of the 2015 league year.
