Panthers' Silatolu out for season

Published Oct. 7, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says starting left guard Amini Silatolu tore the ACL in his right knee in Carolina's 22-6 loss to Arizona on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season.

The injury occurred in the second half after Silatolu got his leg twisted in a pile of players.

The Panthers have now lost a starter to a season-ending injury in each of their three losses this season. Right guard Garry Williams went down with a knee injury in week one against Seattle and safety Charles Godfrey tore his Achilles the following week against Buffalo.

Rivera said Monday that Travelle Wharton or Chris Scott could take over at left guard.

He hasn't decided if the team will sign an offensive lineman.

The Panthers (1-3) visit Minnesota on Sunday.
