LB wants fans ‘super-duper drunk’?

Published Dec. 5, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway is taking a page out of Tom Brady‘s playbook, but he’s not being quite as diplomatic in trying to rile up his home faithful.

Brady, the Patriots three-time Super Bowl champion, said before a game last September he hoped his home fans would be "lubed up" for a big Ggame.

Greenway was a bit stronger in his pregame party pitch, saying he wants fans to get drunk before the Vikings’ key Week 14 matchup this Sunday against their division rival Chicago Bears. And he wants them “super-drunk.” After all, Minnesota’s season could hang in the balance.

“We have to play accordingly and our fans have to show up accordingly, which we know they will,” he said on Sunday after the Vikings lost to the Green Bay Packers. “Hopefully, they’re super-duper drunk. … So drink liquor, not beer.”

The seventh-year linebacker also urged fans to begin their game-day festivities on the earlier side, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. local time.

“Yeah, I would say morning drinking,” Greenway said. “Why not? You could pull an all-nighter. Then you’d have the drunk, tired guys who will really be obnoxious.”

The 6-6 Vikings will need to be awfully obnoxious to Jay Cutler and the Bears if they want to make a playoff run. With just four weeks remaining in the season, Minnesota is two games behind Chicago and Green Bay in the NFC North.
