Browns' Mingo out with bruised lung

Published Sep. 6, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Browns rookie linebacker Barkevious Mingo will not play in the season opener as he continues to recover from a bruised lung.

Mingo, who was hospitalized for two days with the unusual injury, said Friday that he's disappointed he won't be on the field Sunday when the Browns open at home against the Miami Dolphins. Mingo was limited in practice this week but said he is feeling better. He does not know when doctors will allow him to return.

The No. 6 overall pick in this year's draft was injured on the opening kickoff of the Aug. 15 exhibition against Detroit. He experienced shortness of breath and spit up some blood on the sideline, but said he has not experienced any symptoms since.

Mingo would not say if he underwent further medical tests this week, saying ''that's personal.''
