Romanowski fires back at Carter's claim
Former NFL linebacker Bill Romanowski said Wednesday that former Vikings wide receiver Cris Carter's bounty claims are "absolute fiction."
Speaking on the "Dan Patrick Show," Romanowski denied the wideout's claim that he threatened to hurt Carter in pregame warm-ups.
"It is absolute fiction," Romanowski said. "If he could read my mind in pre-game, yeah, maybe he had it right. But I didn't talk before games. I was in the zone."
Carter, appearing on ESPN radio's "Hill and Schlereth" Tuesday to discuss the Saints bounty scandal, admitted that he had approached his offensive lineman to offer a bounty on opposing players, including Romanowski, as a means of protection.
"I'm guilty of it. It's the first time I've ever admitted it, but I put a bounty on guys before. And the guys tried to take me out, a guy tried to take a cheap shot on me, I put a bounty on him, right now." Carter said.
The eight-time Pro Bowler insisted he was not alone in placing bounties on opponents and said he had no regrets.
But Romanowski fired back Wednesday, saying not only did Carter's supposed bounty fail, but also that the former receiver, turned analyst was merely trying to stay relevant on the hot-button issue.
"If he put a bounty on me, it wasn't very good because it didn't work," Romanowski said. "I just think this is his way of trying to make himself relevant for what is going on now."
