Darren Sproles hopes to be released instead of traded
Darren Sproles found out on Twitter that he was on the trading block Tuesday. The veteran running back took control of the situation on Wednesday and said he’d rather get cut.
“I want to get released,” Sproles told ESPN’s Josina Anderson. “I don’t want to be traded. I don’t know where they would send me because I have no control over it and I want to be able to pick. The good thing is none of the teams I’m told they’re talking to are terrible. It’s more than two. I feel I should have more of an idea later on today.”
Sproles, who played three seasons in New Orleans, is an efficient tailback in both the running and passing games. He also adds value in special teams as he returned 81 punts and 70 kickoffs in the past three seasons.
The 5-foot-6, 190-pound running back has one year left on his current deal and is owed $3.5 million in salary and bonuses.
