Source: Wannstedt added to Bills staff
Dave Wannstedt is returning to the NFL.
Wannstedt has agreed to become the assistant head coach and linebackers coach for the Buffalo Bills, a source told FOXSports.com.
Wannstedt recently resigned under pressure at the University of Pittsburgh following a 7-5 season. Wannstedt had a 42-31 overall record in six years coaching his alma mater.
Wannstedt came to Pitt from the Miami Dolphins, where he was head coach from 2000 until resigning midway through the 2004 campaign. Wannstedt also had a 42-31 record in Miami and led the Dolphins to two playoff appearances. Wannstedt was 40-56 in six seasons (1993 to 1998) as Chicago's head coach.
Wannstedt will now be reunited with several of his former staff members from Miami, including Bills head coach Chan Gailey. Gailey was Wannstedt's offensive coordinator in 2000 and 2001 before leaving to become head coach at Georgia Tech.
Wannstedt, 58, also drew interest from Cleveland, where he interviewed Thursday, and Carolina. Dick Jauron is now believed the frontrunner for the Browns' vacant defensive coordinator position.
