Searchers confirm Reed's body recovered

Search officials confirmed they had recovered the body of Brian Reed — the brother of Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed — in the Mississippi River on Tuesday night.

Brian Reed's body was believed to have been found Sunday, but when a diver went to recover it, the body could not be found and the search was suspended for the night.

After two more days of searching — and seven days in total — by volunteer outfit Texas EquuSearch, 29-year-old Brian Reed's body was found in Kenner, La., WDSU.com reported.

Brian Reed jumped into the river on Jan. 6 as he attempted to flee from police over an alleged stolen vehicle.

"We would like to thank all the agencies that worked persistently to recover our loved one," the Reed family said in a statement.

"We appreciate all prayers and support from everyone throughout this trying time."

Police called off the search on Jan. 9, but last Wednesday the Reed family brought in Texas EquuSearch in a bid to bring closure.

Ed Reed, 32, has played in seven Pro Bowls as a star safety for the Ravens.
