Manuel healthy, will start opener
Though it made for a nice August storyline, “Tuel Time” is temporarily on hold in Buffalo.
Bills first-round pick EJ Manuel practiced on Tuesday and the quarterback is now healthy and ready to go for Week 1. Buffalo head coach Doug Marrone named him the starter Wednesday for the season opener Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Manuel, the 16th overall selection of the 2013 draft, injured his knee in a preseason game against Minnesota on Aug. 16. After undergoing a minor surgical procedure on his knee the following morning, Manuel missed the team’s final two preseason games.
Jeff Tuel, the undrafted rookie free agent out of Washington State who made headlines by making the Bills’ final 53-man roster, has been competing for the job with Manuel.
Veteran free-agent signing Matt Leinart was released on Friday, and offseason acquisition Kevin Kolb was placed on injured reserve last week after his latest concussion.
