FS1 talent to appear on 'Amazing Race'

Published Aug. 28, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

If you’re a fan of The Amazing Race, don’t be surprised on Sept. 29 when you see a familiar face on the season premiere of the popular CBS reality show. One of the 11 teams vying for the show’s $1 million prize includes FOX Sports Live’s own Ephraim Salaam.

Salaam will team up with Chester Pitts, a fellow offensive lineman and Houston Texans teammate for three seasons. The two were also teammates at San Diego State.

"Chester is my guy," Salaam said in a promo video for the show, which marks The Amazing Race’s 23rd season. "Chester is not only my friend, he's been my teammate, we've been through terrible, terrible things together. We've been on losing teams. We've helped change a whole organization together. There's nobody I would want to run this race with [more] than Chester."

Salaam and Pitts aren’t the show’s only duo with a background in sports. Also among the contestants are two baseball wives: Kim DeJesus, wife of Tampa Bay Rays outfielder David DeJesus, and Nicky Getz, wife of Kansas City Royals second baseman Chris Getz.

DeJesus and Getz played together with the Royals in 2010. DeJesus started 2013 with the Cubs, but was sent to Washington in a waiver wire trade last week. On Friday, DeJesus was sent to the Rays for cash or a player to be named later after Tampa Bay claimed him on waivers.

The cast also features a pair of Los Angeles Kings ice girls, 22 year-old Ally Mello and 25 year-old Ashley Covert. The two friends met at a party at Cal State Long Beach and are the first ice crew to compete on the show. Said Covert: “We definitely want to leave a great impression for every ice crew in the NHL and show them that we’re strong and athletic and smart.

The show was filmed earlier this summer, so we can’t tell you what happens — mostly because we don’t know. But be sure to keep tuning into FOX Sports Live at 11 p.m. ET each night, because Ephraim will certainly have something to say about the experience, and you won’t want to miss it.
