The Houston Texans have moved safety Ed Reed to the active roster from the physically unable to perform list and released several players to trim their roster to 53.

Reed spent all of camp recovering from offseason hip surgery. The nine-time Pro Bowl player signed with the Texans after spending his entire career with the Ravens.

The Texans chose to keep three quarterbacks on their roster after T.J. Yates and Case Keenum both impressed coach Gary Kubiak in the competition to back up Matt Schaub.

Also on Saturday, the Texans released defensive ends Keith Browner and Delano Johnson, linebackers Cameron Collins and Mike Mohamed, receivers Andy Cruse and EZ Nwachukwu, tight end Jake Byrne, cornerbacks Roc Carmichael and Elbert Mack, fullback Tyler Clutts, running backs Dennis Johnson and Deji Karim, safeties Orhian Johnson and Jawanza Starling, offensive linemen Tyler Horn, Alex Kupper and Nate Menkin and nose tackle Chris Jones.
