Is Adrian Peterson lobbying for Vikings to sign Michael Vick?

Don’t tell Christian Ponder, but Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is hoping the team lands quarterback Michael Vick in free agency.

In fact the eight-year running back went as far as saying that if the team signed him to Minnesota, the Vikings would be a playoff team.

Vick, who started six games for the Eagles last season, hasn’t started more than 13 games in a season since 2006. The veteran quarterback wouldn’t be a traditional fit in offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s stretch-the-field system, either.

It’s arguable that he would be an upgrade over Ponder, though. Vick’s rare athleticism at the quarterback position, coupled with the weapons of Peterson and wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings would make for an entertaining watch.

With Matt Cassel opting out of his deal in February and Josh Freeman set to test free agency, Ponder is the only quarterback under contract with the Vikings. Vick is the most attractive player at his position alongside other options such as Josh McCown and David Garrard.
