Andruzzi helps woman after explosion

Published Apr. 16, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Joe Andruzzi did a selfless act on Monday afternoon after two explosions went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, and now he’s passing the praise on to others.

A photo was released of the former Patriots offensive lineman carrying a woman to safety following the blasts. Andruzzi has received a lot of attention from the picture, and he has now released a statement telling people to focus on those he considers the true heroes in Boston following the explosions, per Andrew Siciliano of NFL.com.

“Marathon Monday should be about uplifting stories, personal challenges and fundraising milestones, but today’s bombings irrevocably changed that,” he said in the statement. “While I appreciate the interest in hearing our perspective on today’s horrific events, the spotlight should remain firmly on the countless individuals — first responders, medics, EMTs, runners who crossed the finish line and kept on running straight to give blood, and the countless civilians who did whatever they could to save lives. They were the true heroes. Our thoughts prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”
