Looks like KISS moving on from Tebow

Published Oct. 29, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Gene Simmons waits for no man — not even Tim Tebow.

Tebow may fancy himself as too good for the Arena Football League (or at least too good to respond to a team's job offer), but another QB whose NFL career fell far short of his collegiate success is taking the stage with the LA KISS.

Football fans of Los Angeles, your newest rock star: Colt Brennan!

In case you've forgotten, Brennan, now 30, is one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history, currently sitting fourth in Division I history in career passing touchdowns and seventh in yards. In his three seasons as Hawaii's starting QB, he led the Rainbow Warriors to a 28-11 record, was a two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year, set or tied 31 NCAA records, and finished in the top 10 in Heisman voting twice (sixth in 2006 and third in 2007).

The SoCal native ended his collegiate career on the grandest stage in Hawaii football history, a BCS Bowl. But after an undefeated regular season, Hawaii fell to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, 41-10, on New Year's Day 2008.

That summer, Brennan was drafted in the sixth round by the Redskins, but in tours with both Washington and Oakland, he never took a snap in a regular-season game. He then signed on with the now-defunct United Football League, but again never played a snap as the team which signed him folded before the season began. His next stop was the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League, but again, he was released without ever taking a snap.

But according to the KISS, they have quite the experienced pro on their hands. Here is their release announcing the signing.

"The LA KISS announced today they have signed prolific quarterback and Southern California native, Colt Brennan. A former 2007 Heisman Trophy finalist with the University of Hawaii, Brennan holds the NCAA record for most touchdown passes in a single season (58) and will utilize his National Football League (NFL) experience with the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders to add veteran leadership and electrifying play to the newest expansion team in the Arena Football League (AFL).

'We're thrilled to bring such a dynamic and successful Quarterback to our team and to our fans,' stated Schuyler Hoversten, President of LA KISS. 'Having a local success story in a key position is great for our fans and I know they'll enjoy watching him play this season at Honda Center.'"

In August of this year, the AFL announced that the famed music group KISS, in particular lead members Simmons and Paul Stanley, joined their manager and an AFL executive to purchase an expansion team to play in the Honda Center in Anaheim beginning in 2014.

In September, the KISS offered a contract to Tebow, but to date, there have been no reports of the Heisman winner / unemployed QB / lightning rod even responding to the offer.

Meanwhile, on the day his team announced signing the cornerstone of its franchise, Simmons was tweeting what we can only hope are the ideas the teams is bouncing around for its promotional giveaways:

Or the new mascot.

And hopefully the cheerleaders will look like this:
