Le'Veon Bell takes a scary hit and the Steelers still fall short

Sometimes, all you end up with for taking a huge hit is just a loss.

Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell had a head of steam and was aiming for the end zone with his team down by eight points late in the fourth quarter on Thursday night. What happened probably gave people watching at home a headache and a sick stomach:

Although it seemed as though Bell fell in for a touchdown, the play was reviewed and reversed. Why?

The rules state that when a runner's helmet comes off, the play is instantly dead at the point it happened. So, while Bell did cross the goal line, the ball was marked at the spot where his helmet flew off.

The Steelers did score a few plays later, but Ben Roethlisberger's pass to Emmanuel Sanders on the two-point conversion attempt fell incomplete. The ensuing try for an onside kick didn't go ... well.

It's a tough ending to a tough night for Pittsburgh, as the 22-20 loss dropped the Steelers to 5-7 and severely damages their playoff hopes. The Ravens improved to 6-6, just 1 1/2 games behind the divsion-leading Bengals.
