Report: Miami's Sparano safe for 2 weeks

Published Oct. 2, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Tony Sparano's job as Miami Dolphins coach is safe for at least two more weeks despite growing speculation about his future, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported, citing a high-ranking NFL source.

The Dolphins fell to 0-4 with Sunday's 26-16 loss in San Diego and are riding a league-worst seven-game losing streak dating to last season.

Sparano, though, is "certain" to remain at the helm through the bye week and be coach for the Oct. 17 trip to the New York Jets, the source said.

His future beyond that Week 6 game could not be guaranteed.

Sparano has led the Dolphins to three straight wins over the Jets at the Meadowlands, with all three games decided by a touchdown or less.
