Raiders coach guilty of major foul

Published Oct. 27, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

People were angry on Sunday, including me.

You had players yelling at their own teammates, you had players and coaches yelling at one another and I even got irritated at a faulty machine in the Ice Cube at the FOX Network Center while watching all of the games.

Wonder if it's got anything to do with Obamacare ...

Seriously, though, a play took place in the Pittsburgh-Oakland game that was absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. It actually happened on the sideline and it wasn't by a player, but rather by a coach. And I was so angry, I called the league office about it.

Here was the situation: Pittsburgh had the ball, first-and-10 at the Oakland 26-yard-line with 8:54 left in the third quarter. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger attempted a pass to Le'Veon Bell and it was defended by Mike Jenkins. The two players collided and the pass fell incomplete. The officials initially called Jenkins for a personal foul for a hit on a defenseless receiver.

It generated a response from the Raiders defensive coordinator Jason Tarver, who twice dropped F-bombs on the officials and both times flipped them the bird. It showed up on national television and the NFL doesn't take kindly to gestures like this. So we'll see what transpires when the league reviews it.

The interesting part, despite Tarver's tirade towards the officials ... and his unprofessionalism, the officials did the right thing and picked up a flag and it wasn't a foul against the Raiders.

But, I still felt that the league needed to know about it and that's why I called. If you want to call me a whistleblower, then call me a whistleblower because I let the league office know about it.

This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable.

I probably should check the mail for my thank you note this week from the charity Tarver's fine ends up supporting.
