Light expected to practice for Pats
Tom Brady received some good news Wednesday: The quarterback’s blindside protector is returning to the practice field.
After battling an illness the past few days, New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light is expected to work during Wednesday afternoon’s session at Indianapolis Colts headquarters.
“I’m excited about practicing today,” Light said. “We’ve got a good game plan and we’re ready to go.”
Light has served as Brady’s primary left tackle since the 2001 season. The 33-year-old Light has 153 career regular-season starts. He was re-signed to a two-year, $12 million contract in the offseason.
Light’s presence will be key to stopping New York’s fierce pass rush, something the Patriots have struggled doing in their past two games against the Giants. Light’s primary responsibility is Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who finished the season with 16.5 sacks.
The Patriots player whose status is most questionable heading into Sunday’s game is tight end Rob Gronkowski, who suffered a high ankle sprain in the AFC Championship game victory over Baltimore. In what may be a good sign for the All-Pro, Gronkowski wasn’t wearing a protective walking boot during his Tuesday media interview session.
