Report: Pats tell Gronk to tone it down

Published Jul. 15, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

Patriots fans had to wonder how long the staid Bill Belichick and party-loving Rob Gronkowski could coexist.

The answer seems to have come this summer, as Gronkowski has reportedly been told to cut back on the public stunts and shirtless escapades, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.

"Via a league source, Gronkowski has been told by the team that his summer of Gronk, so to speak, is over," she writes.

Gronkowski always has been known to be fun-loving, but he's taken the good times to a new level recently. He was one of several athletes appearing nude on the cover of ESPN The Magazine (he also took on a pinata), was up for a couple of ESPY awards, cruised in a celebrity home run derby and, of course, went shirtless quite a bit.

That's not all Gronkowski has been up to — good deeds have been in the mix, as well.

But whether lending a helping hand or just having a good time, New England fans may be hearing less about Gronkowski in the coming days as the team gets ready for training camp.
