Report: Giants' Tuck visits wounded cop
A hero New York City cop who miraculously survived a bullet to the head left the hospital Friday wearing a Justin Tuck jersey — and was then treated to a surprise visit from the man himself.
Kevin Brennan, 29, shot by a gang member in Brooklyn Jan. 31, had just hugged his infant daughter at his Long Island home when the star Giants defensive end decided to drop by, the New York Post reported.
"I just wanted to show him some support," Tuck said.
Tuck was at a nearby event and suggested the visit after being told that not only did the hero cop survive his brush with death, but was also a huge Giants fan.
"He [Brennan] was totally shocked — he had no idea. He said, 'Are you kidding me?,'" Patrolmen's Benevolent Association Trustee John A. Flynn told reporters outside.
Brennan said he was "a little tired" but glad to be going home as he left Bellevue Hospital to the applause of more than 200 fellow cops earlier in the afternoon, just a week after doctors removed a .38-caliber slug from the base of his skull.
Brennan was allegedly shot at point-blank range by Luis "Baby" Ortiz, 21, a Latin Kings gang member, as they struggled over a weapon at the Bushwick Houses in Brooklyn.
Ortiz was wanted for murder even before he allegedly shot Brennan. He was indicted this week on attempted murder in the officer's shooting, and faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Brennan's amazing turnaround has been a "boost of morale for the entire department," and said he displayed remarkable courage in the face of deadly violence.
