Report: Jets snub Revis' agent
Like two exes awkwardly trying to avoid each other at a party, the New York Jets' brass and cornerback Darrelle Revis' camp have managed to keep their distance during the NFL Scouting Combine.
Jets owner Woody Johnson, general manager John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan are in Indianapolis for the annual cattle call of draft prospects. So was Revis' agent, Neil Schwartz. But the Jets' crew didn't meet with, nor even reach out to Schwartz before he left Indianapolis on Monday, however, the New York Daily News reported.
That has fueled speculation the Jets will look to trade the All-Pro cornerback rather than negotiate with him. Revis is signed through 2013 and then can become an unrestricted free agent. Several reports said he is seeking upward of $16 million a year, which would make him the NFL's highest-paid defensive player.
It's not as if the Jets were in Indianapolis to concentrate solely on their draft evaluations. Front office officials met with representatives of players Santonio Holmes, Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland, Austin Howard, Shonn Greene and LaRon Landry, the Daily News reported.
If the Jets are leaning toward trading Revis, those attempts are complicated by the fact he is rehabilitating a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in October. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, the Daily News reported.
Revis, 27, has 19 interceptions in six seasons with the Jets. He is scheduled to make $6 million this year. Any team interested in trading for him likely would want assurances about his knee and reach agreement with him on a long-term contract before completing a deal.
