Jets' Scott fined $10K for rude gesture

The New York Jets have fined linebacker Bart Scott $10,000 for showing his middle finger to a New York Post photographer, the team announced Thursday.

Scott made the gesture Monday, a day after the Jets ended their disappointing 8-8 season with a 19-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The Jets linebacker refused to speak with reporters before flipping the bird and telling a photographer, "Take a picture of this. Get out of my [bleeping] face."

The Jets said Scott's actions "were inappropriate and unacceptable," in a statement posted on the team's Twitter account Thursday.

The hand gesture may have been Scott's final act as a Jet if he is dumped in the offseason after a decline in his production in 2011, according to the Post.

Scott played a reduced role this season, coming off the field on most passing downs.

He is due a guaranteed $4.2 million in 2012, something he referenced on his way out the door when asked about a report that he would not be back.

"I don't know why, I've got a guaranteed contract for $4 million," Scott said.
