Report: Jets hoping to add Braylon

Published Feb. 29, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

Braylon Edwards' hopes of re-signing with the New York Jets last year were ended when the Jets signed Plaxico Burress.

With Burress confirming that his future lies elsewhere after a single season in New York, Gang Green is tipped to make a play for Edwards to return after all.

The wide receiver landed in San Francisco on a one-year deal after being snubbed by the Jets, but was waived by the 49ers before Week 17 having been hindered by knee and shoulder injuries.

The Jets are hoping to persuade Edwards to return, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

A source said the team wants a competitive deal if the 29-year-old Edwards is fit enough to attempt to deliver the kind of star performances he made for the team during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Edwards' willingness to return was not known.

Burress confirmed Tuesday his ambition to join Michael Vick and the Eagles in Philadelphia when free agency begins March 13.
