Raiders' Murphy charged with possession
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested and charged Sunday on possession of Viagra without a valid prescription, police told The Gainesville Sun.
Murphy was also charged with failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence. All three of the charges are misdemeanors.
Gainesville police said Murphy was originally asked to pull over his Cadillac Escalade because an officer noticed his stereo was playing loudly.
The 23-year-old refused to pull over, and continued driving to a parking lot where he and his passengers got out of the vehicle and attempted to walk away.
Officer Thomas Harrison said when he ordered them to stop, Murphy refused to provide identification and would not put his hands behind his back when police attempted to handcuff him.
It eventually took three officers to place the 6ft 2in (1.88m), 180-pound (82kg) Murphy into custody, Harrison said.
Murphy consented to a search of his vehicle, where Harrison said a "non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra" was found.
Murphy allegedly told the officer he took the label off because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for Viagra. However, when asked by police for that prescription, he could not provide it.
A fourth-round draft pick out of Florida in 2009, Murphy had 75 receptions for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns the past two seasons with the Raiders.
