Sources: Manning to meet with Cardinals
The Peyton Manning free-agency tour is making its next stop.
FOXSports.com has learned that the future Hall of Fame quarterback is scheduled to head to Arizona for a Saturday night meeting with Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
Two of Arizona’s top players – wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and defensive end Darnell Dockett – have lobbied for Manning to join their squad following his release from Indianapolis on Wednesday. The Cardinals currently face an uncertain future at quarterback with John Skelton and Kevin Kolb failing to differentiate himself as a clear-cut starter in 2011.
If the Cardinals sign Manning, Kolb would assuredly be released or traded before being set to collect a $7 million roster bonus on March 17.
Manning’s first free-agent visit came Friday and Saturday with the Broncos in Denver. Miami is considered the other front-runner to land Manning, but there is still the possibility of other franchises making a late push.
As first reported by FOXSports.com, Manning wants to decide by Tuesday where he will sign so he can help recruit other free agents to join him. Having undergone four neck surgeries in a 19-month span, Manning is trying to relaunch his NFL career after missing the 2011 season with the Colts.
