49ers, Randy Moss to part ways?

Published Mar. 2, 2013 12:00 a.m. ET

It appears Randy Moss‘ stay in the city by the Bay is all but over.

Pro Football Talk cites a source saying that the San Francisco 49ers made it clear at the NFL Scouting Combine that they will “steer clear” of the veteran receiver and do not expect to re-sign him for the 2013 season.

Though Moss caught just 28 passes in the regular season and seven in the playoffs for the NFC champion Niners, he was lauded by teammates as a leader in the locker room, particularly Michael Crabtree and the rest of the team’s young receiving corps. His boastful personality was what provided his greatest headlines of the season, however, when he proclaimed at Super Bowl Media Day that he was the best wide receiver of all time.

Though the 36-year-old has insisted that he has no plans to retire, he has almost certainly played his final down in San Francisco. Moss took to Twitter on Saturday to thank Niners fans for their support and wish the team luck going forward.

Moss tweeted on Saturday: "Wished we could've finished the job!!thanks for the opportunity an good luck in the future 9ers".

Moss ranks among the game's greats in NFL career receiving statistics over his 14-year career: 982 receptions (9th all-time), 15,292 yards (3rd) and 156 touchdown catches (2nd).
