Sources: Incognito strikes deal with Dolphins, could play again this season

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 12:36 p.m. ET

Richie Incognito will be getting paid not to play, according to NFL Media report. FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Mike Garafolo confirmed the report.

The Dolphins veteran offensive guard, who has been suspended indefinitely since Nov. 3 for his treatment of offensive tackle Jonathan Martin, reached an agreement with the team to extend his suspension. The agreement, for which the terms weren't immediately available, is active while Ted Wells completes his internal investigation.

A decision was looming because the CBA declares a player can't be suspended for more than four games. The Dolphins' matchup against the Jets Sunday marks the fourth game he's been away from the team.

For each game Incognito has been suspended, he's missed out on cashing weekly checks worth $235,294, according to the report. While Incognito met with Wells for over eight hours last week that spanned over two days, the attorney is yet to finalize his investigation.

Incognito agreed to postpone a grievance hearing to discuss his suspension with the Dolphins last week because Wells continues to gather facts.

Key on Incognito: The final 2 weeks of the season are unaccounted for. In other words, if Wells investigation is favorable, he can return.
