Philadelphia Eagles receiver Riley Cooper ignited a firestorm on Wednesday when a video surfaced of him using the N-word at a Kenny Chesney concert in June. Reaction was swift, as Cooper issued an apology and was fined by the Eagles. Cooper later held a news conference at team headquarters.

If you thought, maybe the guy was drunk off his you-know-what, maybe he was.

But Twitter's primary role on Wednesday was ground zero for reaction, as both athletes and fans alike chimed in. And no response drew as much criticism as that of former NFL player Marcus Vick , who tweeted the following before quickly deleting the tweets.

Then he posted he was getting out of the Twitter game altogether.

Even Vick's brother — you know, Cooper's current Eagles QB Michael Vick — was more blunt with his brother than his teammate.

And this guy wondered how Marcus would even be able to make good on the offer.

By the way, you see the proposed new uniform for Cooper?

And this wasn't the first time Cooper and race intersected on social media.

And one of football's more notorious tweeters was surprisingly slow in joining the party in this controversy.

Then offered up quite a response when he did find out.

And it's been quite a bummer summer for Florida Gator football, hasn't it?

Some more notable athletes' replies.

And some of the best from the rest of the world.
